Bob's Bio

Bob Davis started racing in the mid 70’s on the back roads and highways of Va like so many other race drivers.  (No records for this exist however) . Bob was  active in sports growing up and especially football, which lasted through his 1st year at UVa.  Bob confesses that little aches and pains in High School become big in college and that had much to do with his decision to leave football.  The competitive spirit never left Bob and racing came back up years after he graduated college.

Bob’s official race career began at Road Atlanta, a 2.25 mile road course,  in 2003 where he met his (now) close friend and road racing mentor, Ron Fariss.  Ron (former short track racer, GT-1 record holder at VIR, and SCCA Southeast Road Race Champion) was instrumental in helping Bob to wins in SCCA’s GT Series, and attaining a National Competition License in SCCA(Sports Car Club of America).

Bob continued his road racing in 2005 and made his 1st appearance at a NASCAR short track, at Radford Va’s Motor mile Speedway.  Bob ran a limited number of races there, and made the decision to pursue NASCAR on a more serious level the following year.

In 2006 Bob ran 5 races with Todd Via’s #66 team from Goodview Va .  The brief number of races proved impressive but unfortunately, the year came to a premature end after Bob sustained a serious back injury helping his son at a go kart race in Tennessee.  Back surgery ended the 2006 season.

Todd stepped out of NASCAR ownership in 2007 and Bob bought the 66 team as a compliment to his SCCA schedule.  Bob believed strongly that some great marketing opportunities existed in NASCAR’s local Whelan series.   In August of 2007, an unfortunate fiery crash caused by a stuck throttle, ended the year for Bob at Motor Mile.  Fortunately, Bob had another more successful season in SCCA.

2008 brought some excellent results back with GTA, a new series in SCCA for the huge influx of NASCAR Late Models and their teams that have found much appeal in road racing.  Bob and Ron Fariss seem to make good chemistry on SCCA’s road courses up and down the east coast in SCCA’s southeast region.  For 2008, Bob made races from Northern Va at Summit Point Raceway, to Florida’s famed Daytona Speedway yet, running only a limited schedule, Bob finished 5th in SCCA’S Competitive GTA Division.

For 2009, Bob focused more than ever on Motor Mile Speedway and joined up with short track ace Mike Looney .  Since joining up with Mike,   Bob had his best season yet at Motor Mile.

With a brand new car and an outstanding crew behind him for the 2010 season, Bob is looking forward to an awesome year at Motor Mile Speedway.

Bob would like to thank in advance his team at AQUA PROS RACING.  , Al Shelor and the rest of the staff at Motor Mile Speedway in Radford, and most of all, wife Mary and his family for supporting him.  Bob is quietly confident about his odds and adds “One thing I’ve observed in racing AND in life is, if you just keep working at it, sooner rather than later, your day will come.” One more exciting thing for Bob is that his 14 year old son Caleb will be making his NASCAR debut in Limited Late Model at Motor Mile this spring.
